As you may or may not
know, I can be one of the cheapest misers on the face of the planet. I hate to
overpay. So I tend to go overboard when an item isn't needed right now. In the
scheme of things, I am absolutely sure that I spend more in time than I gain in
savings. But my loss is your gain.
Ok, here are the steps.
1) Go to
www.carcostcanada.com and get a subscription for $40. They will tell you the
Invoice price on a car.
2) When you get the quote,
they will include the name of a local car dealer who will sell the car to you
for $X above the invoice price.
3) Go to:
http://www.discountcarsales.com/ and pay Robert Montgomery $50 to give you his
best price on a car. He will quote you an "all in" price including
Tax, PDI, GST. Back out the Tax, PDI, GST etc to figure out how much above the
invoice price Robert is quoting you. It is almost guaranteed to be less than
carcostcanada's dealer's price.
So why bother with
CarCostCanada if Robert Montgomery is cheaper? I personally prefer to deal
directly with the dealer and not have a broker involved at all. So now.....
4) Go back to Step 2 and
call the local dealer and tell him that you got his name from CarCostCanada,
but that you also have a quote from Quinella/Robert Montgomery. Ask him to beat
(or at least match) Robert's price and you'll buy it from him.
There, you have received
the best price possible and you haven't had to deal with a single car salesman
face to face.
It worked for me. My G35
arrives next month.
